Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Nigerian forward Victor Akaniyene Udoh from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp. The 20-year-old has signed a three-and-half-year deal to beef up Saints’ attacking positions going into the business end of the Premier League season.

Victor Udoh was born on 18th October 2004 in Nigeria, and his footballing career started through Hypebuzz FC in Abuja. The talismanic striker moved to Royal Antwerp in March 2023 on his first professional contract. Having made his career debut for the Young Reds Antwerp in Belgian National Division 1, Udoh made 27 appearances and netted 12 goals before being slotted into the first team, where he played 24 matches in the Belgian Pro League. He was notably in the squad that lifted the 2023 Belgian Super Cup, which is big at his tender age in the career world.

This transfer to Southampton is thus a strategic one, with the intent of injecting young blood into the squad. Udoh will begin with the Under-21 team, but the club is hopeful of him breaking into the senior team very soon. His energetic style of play and his goal-scoring traits are expected to make a substantial impact in the Premier League.

Southampton’s Director of Football is ecstatic about the capture: “Victor is a promising young forward with a keen eye for goal. His journey from Nigeria to Belgium into England says a lot about his commitment and talent. We’re looking forward to welcoming him into our setup and helping him make the adjustments to life in the Premier League.”

Victor Udoh: “Joining Southampton is a dream come true. The Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and I’m excited to help contribute to the team’s success. I’d like to thank Royal Antwerp for the opportunity to grow into the player I am today. I am ready for this next chapter in my career.”

The move is in sync with the philosophy of the Southampton team, bringing up young budding talent to hold a strong base for the future. Fans are also supposed to get ready to see him this season, with the club believing Udoh’s talents will fit their attacking style.
