REVIEW: Nigerian Players Abroad Over The Weekend

Nigerian players once again took center stage for their European clubs over the weekend, with several standout performances.

In the Bundesliga, VICTOR BONIFACE retuning from injury, scored as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Hoffenheim 3-1 on Sunday. Boniface, who was close to joining Al Nassr in January, fired Leverkusen ahead in the 15th minute. GIFT ORBAN also scored for Hoffenheim, his second consecutive Bundesliga goal. NATHAN TELLA featured for Xabi Alonso’s side but was substituted in the 42nd minute.

Super Eagles captain WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG scored for Al Kholood in their 4-3 loss to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Professional League on Saturday. Troost-Ekong has now scored two goals in 18 league appearances this season.

OLA AINA impressed as Nottingham Forest thrashed Brighton & Hove Albion 7-0 in the Premier League on Saturday. Aina played the full 90 minutes, while fellow countryman TAIWO AWONIYI was a second-half substitute.

JOE ARIBO and PAUL ONUACHU scored as Southampton beat Ipswich 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday. Aribo bagged his third in 23 league appearances, while Onuachu scored his second goal in 14 games this season.

FRANK ONYEKA was in action for Augsburg in their 1-1 draw against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Onyeka, making his 17th appearance, has recorded one assist this season.

Notably, GABRIEL OSHO missed Auxerre’s 4-2 loss to Monaco in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Osho has made 13 appearances and scored one goal for Auxerre this season.

JEROME AKOR ADAMS made his debut for Sevilla in their 0-0 draw against Getafe on Saturday. Adams, who joined from Montpellier, was introduced nine minutes from time, in a game that also featured countryman Chidera Ejuke for Sevilla.

CYRIEL DESSERS once more impressed for Rangers in their 4-0 win over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

ALEX IWOBI and CALVIN BASSEY helped Fulham stage a dramatic comeback to beat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday.

Super Eagles winger MOSES SIMON lasted over 90 minutes as Nantes won 2-1 at Reims in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
