Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika is thrilled after scoring a crucial goal for Club Brugge in their UEFA Champions League match against Manchester City last night. The 23-year-old’s goal helped the team earn a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium. This keeps Club Brugge in the running in this top European competition. He also scored the opening goal yesterday against City.
Onyedika expressed his joy, saying, “Scoring against a team like Manchester City, especially at their place, means a lot. It shows how hard we’ve worked as a team. I’m happy to help out.”
His story is truly inspiring. He started playing on the streets of Imo State, Nigeria, for FC Ebedei. Then he joined the FC Midtjylland academy in Denmark. His strong performances there led him to Club Brugge in August 2022, where he quickly became an important player.
During his time with Club Brugge, Onyedika has shown what he can do. In the 2023-2024 season, he was named Player of the Month for April after scoring three big goals in the Championship Round.
He’s also been making his mark with the Nigerian national team. Since his debut in September 2022, he has played 12 matches and scored his first international goal in June 2024 during a FIFA World Cup qualifying game.
Club Brugge’s coach praised Onyedika, saying, “His hard work and talent are huge for us. That goal against Manchester City proves he can shine at this level, and we expect great things from him as we move forward in the tournament.”
Looking ahead, Onyedika is focused on what’s next. “This goal is just the beginning for us,” he said. “We want to go as far as we can in the competition, and we’ll keep pushing ourselves.”
