Real Madrid’s chase for the submit of La Liga suffered yet another setback as they were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Rayo Vallecano in a six-goal thriller late on Saturday evening.

With Kylian Mbappé sidelined due to injury, Rodrygo was handed a starting berth, while Fran Garcia replaced Ferland Mendy at left-back.

Rayo Vallecano burst out of the blocks, catching Real Madrid off guard with a dream start. Unai Lopez’s header in the fourth minute put the hosts ahead, and Abdul Mumin’s ‘second headed’ goal of the night doubled their advantage, leaving Real Madrid reeling. This was unfamiliar territory for Los Blancos, who had struggled to recover from two-goal deficits in the past, having managed just one win, one draw, and two losses from such position prior to this game.

However, the second goal seemed to galvanize Real Madrid, and they launched a spirited comeback.

Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham scored two goals in quick succession, leveling the score at 2-2 by halftime. This dramatic turnaround swung the momentum firmly in Real Madrid’s favour.

The visitors carried this momentum into the second half, taking the lead for the first time in the 55th minute through Rodrygo’s deflected effort.

A spirited Rayo Vallecano refused to yield, showcasing exceptional determination and fight to level the score through Isi Palazon’s strike.

As the match wore on, both teams pushed for the winning goal, but the encounter ultimately ended in a 3-3 stalemate.

This result have Real Madrid remained second in La Liga, while Rayo Vallecano stayed in 13th place, extending their cushion over the relegation zone to six points.
