Ruben Amorim and his Reds couldn’t keep tongues from wagging against Manchester United as they were beaten 2-3 at Old Trafford, right in front of their fans, by Nottingham Forest late Saturday evening.
Not much has changed for Manchester United, who are enduring a difficult start to the season, having replaced the axed Ten Hag with former Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim; as they are now in the lowest position they have been after 15 Premier League games played since the 1986/87 season.
This defeat means Manchester United have lost to Nottingham Forest at home for the first time since December 1994.
Nikola Milenkovic gave Forest the lead as early as the second minute to stun Old Trafford before United equalized through Rasmus Hojlund shortly afterwards. However, Forest struck twice within the first ten minutes of the second half through Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood to put them firmly in control. No thanks to Andre Onana’s howler on the night, the Cameroonian who has been impressive before this week sure had a night to forget here.
Bruno Fernandes swept in to make it 2-3 on 61 minutes but Forest held on for back-to-back Premier League victories over Manchester United, a victory that lifts them up to fifth on the league table.
Ruben Amorim must now avoid a third successive defeat in the Premier League away at the Etihad against bitter rivals, Manchester City next weekend.
