Atalanta’s impressive 11-match winning streak in Serie A came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lazio, thanks to a late equalizer from Marco Brescianini. The league leaders were denied a 12th consecutive victory despite a spirited performance.
Going into the match at the Stadio Olimpico, Atalanta were unbeaten since September 24, but were missing key players Mateo Retegui, Gianluca Scamacca, and Matteo Ruggeri. Lazio, meanwhile, were dealing with injuries to Tijjani Noslin, Pedro, Manuel Lazzari, and Matias Vecino.
The match began with Lazio showing aggressive intent, creating a triple chance early on. Atalanta’s goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made two crucial saves against Taty Castellanos, while Matteo Guendouzi’s curling shot hit the far post. Atalanta’s Davide Zappacosta came close to scoring with a volley that went just wide.
Lazio eventually took the lead when Nicolò Rovella delivered a precise ball over the top, allowing Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to outpace Marten de Roon and Sead Kolasinac before finishing confidently with his right foot.
Atalanta pushed hard for an equalizer, with Juan Cuadrado and Ademola Lookman missing opportunities. Lazio’s Boulaye Dia also failed to convert a low cross from Castellanos during a counter-attack.
In the 75th minute, Lookman appeared to score from a corner, but Luca Pellegrini made a crucial goal-line clearance. However, Atalanta’s persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Nicolò Zaniolo flicked on a pass for Lookman, who selflessly set up Marco Brescianini for an easy tap-in from close range.
The draw allowed Atalanta to maintain their position at the top of the Serie A table, while Lazio earned a valuable point despite being depleted by injuries.
