Newcastle United secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, thanks to a hat-trick from Alexander Isak, who scored the fastest away goal in the club’s Premier League history, in a 4-0 thrashing of Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Isak’s first goal, which came after just 25 seconds, set the tone for a dominant display by Eddie Howe’s side.
The victory marked Newcastle’s second consecutive 4-0 win, following their triumph over Leicester City last weekend. The Magpies also advanced to the EFL Cup semi-finals by defeating Brentford on Wednesday.
Newcastle’s win lifts them from 12th place to seventh in the Premier League standings, with 26 points from 17 matches. They now trail sixth-placed Manchester City by just one point.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, remains in the relegation zone, occupying 18th place with 12 points.
Ipswich’s defeat highlighted their struggles at home, where they are yet to record a win this season. The Tractor Boys desperately need the return of injured striker Liam Delap to bolster their attack and alleviate pressure.
In contrast, Newcastle’s festive period has been largely successful, with a draw against Liverpool, progression to the EFL Cup semi-finals, and two consecutive 4-0 wins in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s side is now just four points adrift of the Champions League spots, silencing critics who had earlier questioned his ability to take the team further.
