Barcelona‘s perfect start to 2025 came to an end on Saturday evening, as they dropped points for the seventh time in their last eight La Liga matches, following a 1-1 draw away to Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
The Blaugrana dominated the entire match, creating numerous scoring opportunities, but their familiar finishing issues from the end of 2024 resurfaced, costing them two crucial points and preventing them from gaining ground in the title race.
Barça made an excellent start, dominating possession and finding spaces inside Getafe’s low block. Pedri’s sensational assist led to Jules Kounde’s goal, which put the visitors ahead. However, despite continuing to dominate, Barça struggled to finish their chances, allowing Getafe to slow down the pace and frustrate the Catalans.
Getafe equalized with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, as Mauro Arambarri scored an easy tap-in on the rebound after Iñaki Peña saved Coba da Costa’s volley. Barça had several huge chances to retake the lead but continued to miss them, settling for a 1-1 scoreline at halftime.
Hansi Flick made a halftime change, bringing on Frenkie de Jong for Marc Casadó, aiming to add more passing quality in the attacking half. However, despite dominating the ball, Barça failed to truly threaten Getafe’s defense, mostly attempting to pass the ball into the net.
Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres were introduced to add a different dynamic to the attack, but Barça still couldn’t find a winner. Lamine Yamal’s wonderful ball over the top found Raphinha at the back post, but the Brazilian missed his half-volley, wasting another big moment.
As the pressure mounted, Getafe employed their usual time-wasting tactics, frustrating Barça’s players and coaches and preventing them from creating a late opportunity. The final whistle blew, confirming the 1-1 draw.
Getafe away has consistently been one of Barça’s toughest games, but they should have won this one comfortably. Ultimately, they have only themselves to blame for not taking all three points.
