Nottingham Forest jumped to second place in the Premier League table, at least temporarily for the next 24 hours, after securing a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park. Despite losing key defender Murillo to injury in the warm-up, Forest delivered another spirited away performance under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The visitors took the lead in the first half through a clever move. Morgan Gibbs-White played a glorious long ball to unlock the Everton defense, finding Chris Wood who played a one-two of headers with Anthony Elanga. Wood then lofted the ball above Jordan Pickford to score the opener.

Forest continued to press and doubled their lead on the hour mark. Abdoulaye Doucoure made a slack backpass that was intercepted by Elanga. He found Wood in the box, who squared the ball to Gibbs-White. The Forest midfielder cut inside Doucoure and slammed the ball high into the net to seal the win.

Everton’s attacking struggles continued, with the team failing to register a shot on target until the 80th minute. They made changes to their lineup, giving Armando Broja his first start of the season and dropping Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, the Toffees were unable to break down Forest’s defense.

The home side also had a lucky escape when James Tarkowski, already booked, escaped a red card after a harsh tackle on Wood in the first half.

The defeat marked Everton’s seventh scoreless match in their last nine games, leaving them hovering just above the relegation zone. Forest, on the other hand, continued their impressive form under Nuno Espirito Santo, moving up to second place in the table.
