Mario Balotelli’s tenure at Genoa could be cut short just two months after his arrival, as the Italian striker has only managed to play 56 minutes across six substitute appearances since joining the club in late October. The 34-year-old forward is reportedly weighing his options, with rumors of a potential move to Mexican club Cruz Azul gaining traction.

Balotelli signed with Genoa as a free agent, hoping to revive his career in Serie A after a stint at Adana Demirspor. However, his limited playing time has raised concerns about his role within the team. With the return of injured players like Caleb Ekuban and Jeff Ekhator, competition for a starting position has intensified, further complicating his situation.

The contract Balotelli signed includes a clause that allows both parties to terminate the agreement before its natural expiration. Reports suggest that he is hesitant to accept a secondary role for the remainder of the season, especially with Andrea Pinamonti being favored as the primary striker.

Genoa recently underwent a change in ownership and expressed interest in retaining Balotelli until the end of the season. However, given his lack of involvement on the pitch, Balotelli may opt for an early exit. The potential offer from Cruz Azul, reportedly worth €2 million per season, could provide a lucrative alternative for the forward looking to re-establish himself.
