Manchester United announces that defender Luke Shaw has been dealt another blow in his recuperation from a muscular problem, ruling him out of action for another at least four weeks. The club is in close contact with the medical team to establish the best mode of treatment and rehabilitation for him.

Shaw, 29, had finally returned to action after a long time out with knee and calf problems. He made three substitute appearances against Ipswich Town, Bodo/Glimt, and Everton to give every indication he was on his way back. He struggled with the same niggle again and went for further medical tests.

The left-back has since taken to social media to leave a heartfelt message for his fans:

“Hi guys, it hurts a lot even to write this. I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback.

I have been through a lot of ups and downs but. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough .

I understand there is going to be. There is no one feeling that more  .

But what I can promise is I. Thank you to everyone for the. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I.

The current problem is totally different from all the previous ones he has suffered and is considered a new muscle injury. Medical tests have shown that, with proper treatment and rehabilitation, in about four weeks Shaw can recover his full potential.

Manager Ruben Amorim commented on the difficulty represented by Shaw’s absence:

“It’s a pity to lose a player of Luke’s quality at any time, but he was really making some encouraging progress from a very challenging injury. We face a pretty busy period now, and his experience and ability will be missed. It is, however, another opportunity for other players to come in and contribute. We are fully confident in the depth and resilience of our squad.”

A run of crucial fixtures in the coming weeks – not least Premier League matches and key cup ties – await Manchester United, and the medical staff will work hard with Shaw to ensure his pathway back to fitness is as smooth as possible.

The club would like to thank everyone involved for their support surrounding this injury and reiterate a call for patience for Luke Shaw during this frustrating period. An update on Luke’s progress will follow in due course.
