In the latest round of Premier League player injury updates, Manchester United regrets to confirm that winger Amad Diallo will miss the remainder of the 2024-2025 season with a severe ankle injury sustained in training at the start of this week.

The Ivorian international at 22 has been a consistent figure under head coach Rúben Amorim, scoring six and providing seven assists this term. His up-and-down games have been propelling United’s tournaments in local and European cups.

The injury occurred during a routine training session as the team was getting ready to play Tottenham Hotspur in their following Premier League encounter. Initial tests establish that Diallo has damaged the ligaments in his ankle and will be absent for approximately three months.

Head coach Rúben Amorim said, “Amad’s injury is a big blow to the team. His contribution to the team, on and off the field, has been enormous. We will get the best possible medical care for him to have him back fully.”

The injury comes at a bad time for Manchester United with midfielders Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Toby Collyer also out due to injuries leading into the critical game against Tottenham.

In spite of this setback, the team is hopeful regarding Diallo’s future. Last month, he extended his contract for five and a half years, remaining at Old Trafford through the 2029-2030 season.

Technical director Jason Wilcox had this to say about Diallo’s extension: “Amad has shown quality and a very high degree of adaptability. His professionalism and commitment are a source of inspiration to us all, and we have every faith that he will overcome this set-back and become a valued member of our team.”

The club’s medical team will be monitoring Diallo’s rehabilitation with expectation of seeing him back for the next season. His team and fans too have pledged their support to have his back, showcasing his strength and being a mainstay for the team.

Manchester United has a tough coming weeks with games against Tottenham Hotspur on February 16, Everton FC on February 22, and Ipswich Town on February 26. The team is set to adjust without Diallo, with other players having the chance to excel at this point.
