Following recent comments made by forward Marcus Rashford regarding his future at Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim has addressed the situation, emphasizing the importance of Rashford to the team and expressing his desire for the talented player to remain at Old Trafford.
In an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford stated he is “ready for a new challenge” after spending 20 years at Manchester United. His remarks have sparked speculation about a potential departure from the club, especially after he was omitted from the squad during the recent derby victory against Manchester City.
In response to Rashford’s comments, Amorim affirmed that he wants the forward to stay and contribute to the club’s ambitions. “He is right; we have here a new challenge, the biggest in football,” Amorim stated during a press conference. “We are in a difficult situation, and I hope all my players are ready. I want to support Marcus and help him return to the highest level on the pitch.”
Amorim emphasized that Manchester United is better with Rashford in the lineup. “This kind of club needs big talents, and he is a big talent,” he said. “My focus is on helping him perform at his best. I just want to win and enhance the team’s performance.”
Rashford’s remarks came after a challenging period for both him and the club. Once a key player for Manchester United, Rashford has struggled with form over the past 18 months, which has led to his exclusion from England’s national team for recent competitions. Despite these challenges, he remains under contract until 2028, with a weekly wage of £325,000.
Amorim acknowledged that while Rashford has expressed a desire for change, there are opportunities for growth within Manchester United itself. “The new challenge he speaks of can be found right here,” he noted. “We need to focus on improving our situation together.”
As Manchester United prepares for their upcoming Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur, Amorim indicated that he has not yet decided whether Rashford or fellow winger Alejandro Garnacho, who was also left out of the squad against City, will return to the lineup. “We have one more training session before the match,” Amorim explained. “If they perform well in training, I will make a decision based on that.”
The manager reiterated that all players must meet high standards in training to earn their place in the squad. “I expect the best from each player every day,” he added.
