Manchester City is happy to reveal the signing of Spanish midfielder Nico González of FC Porto. The club has turned on the player’s release clause, getting his services for about £50 million (€60 million).
Contributing significantly with 12 goal involvements in 29 matches this year, forward Nico González, 23, has been a standout performer for FC Porto. Manchester City’s squad would benefit from his versatility since it allows him to work effectively in defensive, central, or attacking midfield positions.
The choice to acquire González is reaction to a knee injury that Rodri sustained at the end of the year. Given the difficulties a few other midfield options faced in adjusting to the defensive midfield position, Manchester City singled out González as the perfect fit to occupy this vital position.
Starting at FC Barcelona, where he advanced through the famous La Masia academy, González started his soccer road. That same year in July he moved to FC Porto, where he kept honing and displaying his abilities. FC Barcelona kept a 40% sell-on provision, which means they have a considerable amount of the transfer cost.
After the earlier acquisitions of forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt and Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, Manchester City’s overall expenditure in this transfer window has already surpassed £173 million.
Nico González is supposed to join the team straight available for selection in the next matches. The club feels his technical ability, vision, and flexibility will greatly improve Manchester City’s midfield dynamics as they keep challenging on several fronts throughout the season.
