Manchester City is delighted to announce an agreement with RC Lens for the transfer of Abdukodir Khusanov. The 20-year-old Uzbek center-back will join the Premier League champions on a contract extending until June 2029, with an option for an additional season.
The deal is valued at up to €50 million, including bonuses, marking a significant milestone for both clubs. Khusanov’s transfer becomes the largest sale in RC Lens’ history, surpassing previous records.
Khusanov has rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s most promising defensive talents. Since joining RC Lens from Energetik-BGU in 2023, he has made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 and earned 18 caps for the Uzbekistan national team. His exceptional performances have garnered attention from top European clubs, with Manchester City securing his services to bolster their defensive lineup.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed enthusiasm about Khusanov’s arrival, viewing him as a strategic addition to the squad’s defensive capabilities. Guardiola stated, “Abdukodir is a talented young defender with significant potential. We look forward to integrating him into our team and aiding his development at the highest level of football.”
Khusanov is scheduled to undergo medical examinations in the coming days. Upon successful completion, he will join the first team and begin training immediately, aiming to make his debut in the upcoming fixtures. In addition to Khusanov, Manchester City is actively pursuing further reinforcements. Negotiations are ongoing with Eintracht Frankfurt for forward Omar Marmoush and Palmeiras for defender Vitor Reis. These potential signings reflect the club’s commitment to strengthening the squad across multiple positions to maintain competitiveness in domestic and international competitions.
