Arsenal Football Club confirms that forward Gabriel Jesus sustained a suspected anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the FA Cup third-round match against Manchester United on January 12, 2025. The injury occurred following an on-field collision, leading to Jesus being stretchered off in the 41st minute.

Initial assessments suggest a significant injury to the left knee, which further specialist evaluations revealed the full extent. Early indications point to a potential recovery period of nine months or more, which has sideline Jesus for the remainder of the current season and a portion of the next.

This incident marks the second major knee injury for the 27-year-old Brazilian international, who previously injured his right knee during the 2022 World Cup. Prior to this setback, Jesus was in exceptional form, scoring six goals in his last seven appearances for Arsenal.

Manager Mikel Arteta expressed concern, stating, “He was in quite a lot of pain; it’s not looking good.”

The club is currently contending with an extensive injury list, including key players such as Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurien Timber, Ben White, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, all sidelined with various injuries. This series of setbacks presents a significant challenge as Arsenal aims to close the six-point gap behind league leaders Liverpool.

In light of Jesus’s injury, Arsenal is exploring options in the January transfer window to bolster the squad. Potential targets include Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, as the club seeks to maintain its competitive edge in the Premier League.
