FC Barcelona Considers Immediate Transfer of Vitor Roque

The newest transfer news making the rounds is that FC Barcelona is currently conducting discussions on the immediate transfer of Brazilian forward Vitor Roque to Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras. The transfer is pending approval by Real Betis, where Roque is now playing on loan.

Vitor Roque, 19, joined FC Barcelona in January 2024 from Athletico Paranaense for an initial fee of €30 million. In search of more first-team minutes, he was loaned out to Real Betis in August 2024 for the duration of the 2024/25 season. Roque has appeared 23 times in all competitions throughout his spell at Betis, scoring six goals and one assist. Despite a fine start, his playing time recently has decreased, and he is now the third-choice striker for manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Palmeiras has made it very evident that they would greatly prefer to have Roque back in Brazil by the time the transfer window ends on February 28, 2025. They have made an offer of €25 million for 80% of Roque’s rights, with the intent of making him a central figure and one of the highest-paid players at the club. This has been met with openness by Roque, who envisages greater playing time and exposure.

The viability of this transfer hinges mostly on Real Betis’ willingness to terminate Roque’s loan prematurely.

Betis are continuing to pay his full salary and are also facing the threat of a €1.5 million payment to Barcelona if Roque does not meet a minimum appearance quota. Although releasing Roque would alleviate financial pressures and potential sanctions, it is said that Betis does not want to lose quality from their roster in the middle of the season. Roque’s promise is appreciated by manager Manuel Pellegrini, who would rather retain him as an option in the competitive attacking group.

Barcelona’s point of view, the proposed deal with Palmeiras is an opportunity to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment in Roque. The club would prefer a permanent transfer rather than another loan move, with a desire to sort out the player’s future as quickly as possible.

Negotiations are ongoing between all parties. The final decision lies in Real Betis’ willingness to release Roque from his loan agreement. FC Barcelona is in close communication with both Real Betis and Palmeiras to achieve a result that is convenient for all parties involved.
