Everton Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of David Moyes as manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract, marking his return to Goodison Park after more than a decade.
Moyes, 61, previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, transforming the club into consistent European contenders during his tenure. His return comes at a crucial time, with Everton currently 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
The decision to reappoint Moyes follows the recent acquisition of Everton by The Friedkin Group, who identified him as the ideal candidate to steer the club away from relegation danger and lay the foundations for future growth, especially as the team prepares to move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
Moyes expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Everton: “This club has always held a special place in my heart. I am committed to working tirelessly with the players, staff, and fans to achieve the success that Everton deserves.”
During his previous spell at Everton, Moyes was known for his strategic acumen and ability to maximize player potential, leading the team to multiple top-six finishes in the Premier League. His recent success includes guiding West Ham United to a UEFA Conference League victory before departing the club last season.
Moyes is expected to bring in a new coaching staff, with long-time assistant Billy McKinlay anticipated to join him at Goodison Park.
Everton’s interim management, led by Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines, secured a 2-0 FA Cup victory against Peterborough United. Moyes will take charge ahead of the upcoming Premier League fixture against Aston Villa on Wednesday, aiming to secure a positive result as he begins his second tenure with the club.
The club’s supporters have expressed optimism about Moyes’ return, hoping his experience and familiarity with Everton will bring stability and renewed vigor to the team’s performance.
