Borussia Dortmund has officially parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following a series of disappointing performances that have left the team positioned 10th in the Bundesliga standings. The decision comes in the wake of a 1-2 defeat to Bologna in the Champions League, marking the club’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions.
Nuri Sahin, a former Dortmund midfielder with 274 appearances for the club, was appointed as head coach in June 2024, succeeding Edin Terzić. Sahin’s tenure began with promise, but the team’s form has declined in recent months, culminating in a series of losses that have prompted the club’s management to seek new leadership.
The club’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, stated, “It is clear that we are not satisfied with the overall situation of our results. We have to stick together and work hard on things. We are lagging behind in our goals.”
Reports indicate that prior to the match against Bologna, the club’s management had identified the game as decisive for Sahin’s future. The loss not only impacted Dortmund’s standing in the Champions League but also sealed the fate of Sahin’s tenure as head coach.
In the interim, assistant coach Sven Bender will assume the role of caretaker manager as the club initiates the search for a permanent replacement. The management emphasizes the importance of stabilizing the team’s performance and is committed to finding a successor who aligns with the club’s vision and objectives.
Borussia Dortmund extends its gratitude to Nuri Sahin for his contributions and dedication during his time as head coach and wishes him success in his future endeavors.
