The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the postponed LaLiga match between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna will take place on March 27, 2025, at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona. This decision comes after both clubs’ appeals to reschedule the fixture were rejected.
The original match, scheduled for March 8, 2025, was postponed due to the sudden passing of FC Barcelona’s esteemed club doctor, Carles Miñarro García. His unexpected death deeply affected the team and led to the match’s deferment as a mark of respect and to allow the club time to grieve.
Both FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna submitted appeals against the newly proposed date, citing concerns over player availability and fixture congestion. FC Barcelona highlighted that at least six of their players, including key figures like Raphinha and Ronald Araújo, would be engaged in international duties around the rescheduled date, thereby impacting team strength. Osasuna expressed concerns due to their tight schedule, with another match against Athletic Bilbao initially set just two days after the rescheduled fixture.
Despite these appeals, the RFEF upheld the decision to play the match on March 27, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the competition’s integrity and adhering to scheduling regulations. To accommodate Osasuna’s concerns, LaLiga has rescheduled their game against Athletic Bilbao to March 30.
The timing of the rescheduled match poses significant challenges for FC Barcelona. Brazilian forward Raphinha and Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo are set to participate in World Cup qualifiers for their respective national teams on March 25 and 26. Given the proximity of these international fixtures to the rescheduled match, both players are expected to miss the game against Osasuna.
Additionally, other Barcelona players, including Gerard Martín, Fermín López, and Pablo Torre, are involved in international duties with Spain’s under-21 team, potentially affecting their availability and fitness levels for the Osasuna match.
As of now, FC Barcelona sits atop the LaLiga standings, level on points with Real Madrid at 60, but with a game in hand. This rescheduled match against Osasuna presents an opportunity for Barcelona to solidify their lead in the title race.
