- Arsenal admits that the Gunners are considering January reinforcements amid the injury crisis.
- Injury woes leave Gunners short-staffed in many departments.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta has admitted the club’s need to strengthen its squad in the January transfer window amidst the team’s injury woes.
Expectations were high for Arsenal Football Club at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, considering the level the team has been playing at in the past few seasons. However, they’ve struggled to take advantage of Manchester City’s poor form this season. The Gunners are presently seated third on the log behind Liverpool, who have been almost perfect this term, and Chelsea, who are finding good form again.
Unfortunately, the winter transfer window is not exactly an easy one to navigate, especially for a club like Arsenal that requires needle movers and not just squad fillers. Arteta, when asked about Arsenal’s plans for the January transfer window ahead of the Champions League match on Wednesday, remained optimistic, admitting that the window gives the team an opportunity to improve its squad. However, he was also full of praise for the professionalism of the current squad, admitting that the players have been disciplined enough to handle the pressure of being an injury-thorn team.
The Gunners appear to be short-staffed in many positions, especially with the team’s recent injury woes, and it appears the club’s hierarchy is working behind the scenes to bring the right fit to the squad. Arteta told reporters that the club has the resources, but won’t just go throwing money around unless the club finds the best players for the position it needs.
“The window gives us an opportunity to strengthen the team if we feel that is needed and we feel that we have the capacity to do that as well. We are on it and just have to assess the situation because it is changing every week. I’m positive that in a few weeks we’re going to be in a better place.”
The Premier League side hosts Monaco on Wednesday for a crucial Champions League match that could catapult them to automatic qualification to the next round. But they’ll also be setting their sights on beating Everton at home in the Premier League on Saturday to stay within Liverpool’s trail as the battle for the title intensifies.
