In a recent announcement according to La Liga’s standings, Real Betis Balompié is pleased to report that Brazilian winger Antony will once again be available for selection for the upcoming La Liga game against Real Madrid. The Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now officially revoked the red card he was given in the recent match against Getafe.
In the final moments of the match at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Antony was given a direct red card by referee Alberola Rojas following a tackle on Juan Iglesias. The initial option had characterized the incident as “entering behind an opponent with no possibility of playing the ball, employing disproportionate force.” But upon thorough consideration, the Disciplinary Committee ruled that Antony was aiming to intercept the ball rather than to contact the other player. The committee’s statement said that Antony “never takes his eyes off the ball played by the opponent, attempting to cut off its path with his left foot.” Thus, the red card is withdrawn, and Antony is not suspended. This decision contrasts with a recent court decision in the case of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. Bellingham received a direct red during a match with Osasuna for purportedly using a profane greeting with the referee. Despite pleas by Real Madrid, the RFEF maintained the suspension, making Bellingham out for two games.
Antony’s inclusion is a timely boost for Real Betis heading into their match against Real Madrid at Estadio Benito Villamarín. During his half-season at the team since joining the winter market, the Brazilian right-winger has impressed to the value of two goals and two assists in La Liga. His attacking speed has been the key to Real Betis’ performance of late.
Looking back on the suspended suspension, Antony stated that he was prepared to play Real Madrid: “I’m always prepared and willing to play. The situation was hard, but I’m glad it’s over. I’m prepared to face the game against Madrid.”
The game is eagerly anticipated, with both sides vying for crucial points as the campaign progresses. Real Betis is eager to capitalize on home advantage and take their good run of form on. The encounter will be staged on Saturday at 18:30 local time at Estadio Benito Villamarín.
