In recent transfer news, Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras is delighted to announce the transfer of Brazilian attacking midfielder Vitor Roque from FC Barcelona on a permanent deal. The 20-year-old midfielder signs for Palmeiras on a contract worth €25.5 million, with add-ons valued at an additional €5 million, making it the most expensive signing in South American football history.
The return of Vitor Roque to Brazil follows a one-year stint in football in Europe. He had first signed with FC Barcelona in January 2024 for a transfer price of €30 million but experienced limited time on the pitch to demonstrate his skills at the Camp Nou. Throughout his stint with Barcelona, Roque played 16 matches and scored two goals. Towards the end of August 2024, he was loaned to Real Betis, where he played 33 matches and scored seven goals.
The transfer to Palmeiras was facilitated after FIFA gave approval, allowing the transfer to happen even though the Spanish transfer window had closed. The tactical signing is a testament to Palmeiras’ commitment to strengthening its squad for upcoming competitions, including the glamour Club World Cup in June 2025.
When he was joining, Vitor Roque had the following to say: “It is an honor to wear the shirt of Brazil’s Greatest Champion. Since the news began to circulate about my potential move to Palmeiras, I have received a number of messages from the fans of Palmeiras, and that has been a determining factor. I can barely wait to get back with my team and out on the field to help Palmeiras.”
Palmeiras’ acquisition of Vitor Roque not only sets a new record in South American football transfers but also demonstrates the desire of the club to compete at the top both domestically and internationally. The club believes that Roque’s potential and determination will help it achieve its objectives in the next few seasons.
FC Barcelona retains a 20% sell-on clause, ensuring it gets a share of any future sale of Vitor Roque. Real Betis, however, got a bigger percentage of winger Abde Ezzalzouli’s economic rights as part of the agreement to settle Roque’s loan contract, with it now holding 70%.
Vitor Roque will join Palmeiras’ training immediately and will be in the running for selection in upcoming matches. Palmeiras is preparing for an official presentation ceremony, which will be announced shortly.
Happy for him
