PSV Eindhoven staged a thrilling 3-1 second leg comeback to eliminate Juventus and advance into the Champions League last 16 with a 4-3 aggregate triumph. Defender Ryan Flamingo scored what proved to be the winner in extra time, poaching a 98th-minute goal after Juventus had restored parity in the second half.

The tie was finely poised after Juventus’s 2-1 win in the first leg, but PSV Eindhoven began the second leg on the front foot, determined to overturn the deficit, with the Dutch side creating several early chances that got squandered.

Juventus suffered a setback when Renato Veiga was forced off after just 12 minutes, and the Bianconeri’s woes deepened when Ivan Perisic broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Perisic’s goal sparked a frenetic period of pressure from PSV, with Luuk de Jong coming close to doubling the lead. Juventus, however responded through Timothy Weah’s equalizer 10 minutes later, stunning the hosts with a terrific strike.

The parity was short-lived, as Ismael Saibari rifled in another PSV strike to level the tie on aggregate. Saibari’s goal sent the Philips Stadion into raptures, and PSV continued to dominate possession and create the better chances. Although, no one could find the back of the net again, sending the match into extra time.

PSV remained the more dangerous side in extra time, with Michele Di Gregorio making a fantastic save to deny Saibari early in the first half. Eventually, the home side got their reward, as Ryan Flamingo put them back in front. Flamingo’s winner came after a defensive muddle, and the PSV defender made no mistake in slotting the ball past Di Gregorio.

Juventus pushed hard for an equalizer in the closing stages, but PSV’s defense held firm for a vital victory. Nicolo Savona’s fine effort was well saved by the PSV goalkeeper, and Dusan Vlahovic struck the post in a frantic finale. However, the Old Lady ultimately bowed out, becoming the third Italian team to exit the competition in the play-off phase.

PSV Eindhoven’s victory would set up an entertaining clash in the last 16, as the Dutch side looks to continue their impressive European campaign. For Juventus, the defeat means a disappointing end to their Champions League aspirations, and the Bianconeri will now focus on their domestic campaign.
