Leicester City manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy got off to a winning start in his first game in charge as the Foxes Hammered West Ham United 3-1 in one of Tuesday night’s classics.
Veteran striker Jamie Vardy bagged the first goal of Van Nistelrooy’s regime with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box. The goal, which was initially ruled out for offside, would eventually stand after a lengthy VAR review.
The Hammers responded well by trying to control play and catch Leicester City’s defenders on some quick counter attacks. One of such attacks almost put them in front within a few minutes, but Danny Ings audacious header struck the woodwork following a deflection.
The visitors continued to mount pressure on the hosts, but Mads Hermansen’s heroics between the sticks throughout the first half kept the foxes in the game.
Despite these strings of dominance, the foxes were able to double their lead moments after West Ham’s supposed equalizer was cancelled for an off-the-ball foul in build up. Bilal El Khannouss’ goal brought the much needed relief to the home fans and calm to the team’s playing style.
Again Var was called into action in the 81st minute, denying Bobby De Cordova-Reid of his stunner. But a third foxes’ goal was meant to be as Patson Daka struck home at stoppage time to guarantee Ruud’s first win of his Career at Leicester.
Eight defeats out of 13 games so far this season leaves Lopetegui on the hot seat, but he’ll be hoping Niclas Fullkrug’s 93rd minute consolation goal will be the confidence booster his team needs to turn their season around. There’s no better time for a turnaround than on Monday when he hosts his former side Wolves at the London Stadium under the lights.
He should continue this way ooh
