Three more different scorers added to the rally to bring Barcelona’s total goal to 5 – with Raphinha scoring his brace in the second half. Impressive performances from the likes of Frankie de Jong, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal, gave Barca their deserved win, allowing the fans to once again dream of winning the league.
How It Unfolded
The Catalans looked rejuvenated from the first minute, with their strings of passes putting them in early control of the game. But the traveling fans had to wait until the 12th minute to celebrate a goal after Ferran Torres coolly played in a rebound into an empty post from close range.
Everybody would be surprised at Hansu Flick’s bold decision to bench Lewandowski for Ferran Torres, but the Brazilian repaid the gaffer’s faith with a cool finish in the early minutes of the game.
The goal expanded Barca’s confidence as they began to exert their much expected control, moving the ball with pace and intent.
However, Mallorca picked a goal almost out of nothing towards the end of the first half as they exploited Barca’s high-line to earn their way back into the game.
We can imagine that Flick spent a reasonable part of the break reminding the team of the point they had to prove, because they looked like a different team when they came back for the second half. They utilized the spaces around them to knock the ball around, frustrating Mallorca’s markers. One of these passes put Yamal through on goal before he was knocked down by a Mallorca defender – the referee pointed to the spot. Raphinha stepped up and converted coolly.
It didn’t take too long for the in-form Brazilian to net again, extending the game out of Mallorca’s reach. Yamal played one of his magical passes to set up Raphinha for a goal that can simply be defined as brilliant.
Frankie de Jong and Pau Victor (both from the bench) scored two quick fire goals to solidify Barca’s lead in the match and on the La-liga table.
