Excitedly, FC Barcelona declares that midfielder Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, known as Gavi, has signed a contract extension keeping his future with the team until June 30, 2030. Highlighting the club’s commitment to keeping its top players, this deal has a €1 billion release provision.

20-year-old Gavi started at the renowned youth academy of Barcelona, La Masía, in 2015. Becoming the fourth-youngest débutant of the club, he played his first team match on August 29, 2021 at a mere 17 years and 24 days old. Since then, he has been a key player in the team noted for his outstanding technical skill, defensive awareness, and scoring; he has nine goals to his credit so far.

A serious knee injury Gavi sustained while playing with the Spanish national team in late 2023 set him back. Nearly unavailable for a year, this injury caused him to miss the European Championship and Olympics. Showing outstanding tenacity, Gavi came back to play in October 2024 and was instrumental in Barcelona’s Supercopa win opposite Real Madrid.

Regarding the renewal, Club President Joan Laporta said, “Gavi epitomizes the heart and future of FC Barcelona. His energy and dedication are priceless qualities for our team.”

Barcelona has seen Gavi rise quickly. He progressed rapidly through the youth ranks following his 2015 switch from Real Betis, and he debuted for Barça B in February 202. Then first-team coach Ronald Koeman noticed his outstanding shows, which led to his elevation to the senior squad in the year to come.

Gavi has been a stand-out performance for Spain on the world scene. Debuting in October 2021, he took the field as the national team’s youngest player. During a game against the Czech Republic in June 2022, he solidified his place in history by becoming Spain’s youngest-ever goal scorer.

Reflecting Barcelona’s plan to secure its core talents for the future, this contract extension matches Gavi with comparative team members Pedri, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and Ronald Araujo, all of whom have €1 billion release clauses.
