Brentford secured a narrow 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon to get their second away victory in the Premier League this season.

The first half was uneventful, with neither team creating meaningful opportunities in the final third. Both sides struggled to break down each other’s defenses, resulting in a lackluster opening 45 minutes.

However, the game sprang to life around the hour mark when Maxence Lacroix tripped Nathan Collins, resulting in a penalty for Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo’s initial penalty attempt struck the post, but he was given a second chance after VAR penalized Marc Guehi for encroachment.

Mbeumo made no mistake with his second attempt, burying the ball past the Palace goalkeeper to give Brentford the lead. The goal was a significant moment in the match, as it gave Brentford the momentum they needed to push on.

Kevin Schade doubled Brentford’s lead with 10 minutes remaining, seemingly securing the three points for the visitors. Schade’s goal was a well-taken effort, and it appeared to have sealed the win for Brentford.

However, debutant Romain Esse halved the deficit minutes later with his first touch of the ball as a Premier League player. Esse’s goal was a promising sign for Palace, but it ultimately proved to be too little, too late.

Despite the late goal, Palace were unable to mount a comeback, and Brentford held on for a crucial away win. The result lifts Brentford to 11th place with 31 points, four points above Palace, who occupy 10th spot.

Thomas Frank’s Brentford have been an entertaining side to watch this season, scoring 42 goals in the top flight. However, their away form has been a concern, and they will need to show greater consistency if they harbor ambitions of challenging for a top-half finish.

In contrast, Crystal Palace’s defeat wouldn’t overshadow the positive work done by manager Oliver Glasner. The Eagles are 11 points clear of the relegation zone and should be confident of securing their Premier League status.
