Real Betis Balompié is on the verge of securing a loan deal for Brazilian winger Antony from Manchester United. The proposed arrangement is set to extend until June 2025, with no option to purchase included. Both clubs are finalizing the terms, which involve Manchester United covering a portion of Antony’s salary during his tenure at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Antony Matheus dos Santos, 24, joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022 from AFC Ajax for a transfer fee of €100 million. Despite high expectations, Antony has faced challenges in adapting to the Premier League’s demands. This season, he has yet to start a league match, featuring primarily in domestic cup competitions. His limited playing time has prompted discussions about a temporary move to gain consistent first-team experience.

Real Betis, currently positioned 11th in La Liga, has identified the need to bolster their attacking options. Under the guidance of head coach Manuel Pellegrini, the club aims to enhance its offensive capabilities, addressing recent inefficiencies in front of goal. The addition of Antony is anticipated to provide the necessary dynamism and creativity on the flanks, complementing the existing squad.

Negotiations between Real Betis and Manchester United commenced in late December 2024. The discussions have progressed positively, with both parties working towards a mutually beneficial agreement. Antony has expressed openness to the move, seeking regular playing time to rejuvenate his career. The loan deal, pending finalization, does not include an option to buy, indicating Manchester United’s interest in retaining the player’s long-term potential.

Financial considerations have been a focal point in the negotiations. Antony’s substantial salary posed a challenge; however, Manchester United’s willingness to subsidize a significant portion has facilitated the progression of talks. This arrangement aligns with Real Betis’s budgetary constraints while allowing them to acquire a player of Antony’s caliber.

The impending arrival of Antony is part of Real Betis’s broader strategy to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window. The club is also exploring options to reinforce other positions, including the pursuit of a central forward and a left-back, to address depth concerns and enhance overall team performance.

As the final details are being ironed out, both clubs are optimistic about reaching a conclusive agreement imminently. An official announcement is expected once all contractual aspects are settled, and the necessary medical examinations are completed.
