Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Georgian winger who played a pivotal role in Napoli’s recent successes, has officially announced his departure from the club as he prepares to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In an emotional video message shared on his Instagram account, Kvaratskhelia expressed deep gratitude to the Napoli fans, teammates, and the city that embraced him during his tenure.
Reflecting on his time in Naples, Kvaratskhelia stated, “It’s hard for me, but it’s time to say goodbye. I spent an amazing time here; we shared a lot of memories together, experienced a lot of amazing emotions. Naples was my home, where I felt wonderful thanks to each of you.”
Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli in 2022 and quickly became an integral part of the squad. His exceptional performances contributed significantly to Napoli securing their first Scudetto in 33 years, with the winger recording 12 goals and 13 assists in 34 league appearances during the championship season.
In his farewell message, he reminisced about his debut goal and the passionate support from the fans, saying, “I remember my first goal and feelings that I will never forget. My first steps in this stadium, your keen emotions, your cheers, and your energy which have always been special, both at home and away.”
Expressing his appreciation for the club and its supporters, Kvaratskhelia added, “It was a great honour for me to wear this jersey. I would like to thank everyone who works at the club. I would like to thank the coaches, each member of staff, my teammates, and the fans.”
The transfer to PSG is reported to be valued at approximately €70 million. Kvaratskhelia is expected to undergo medical examinations in Paris on Friday before finalizing the move.
Napoli’s head coach, Antonio Conte, commented on the departure, stating, “Kvara has asked the club to be sold… I spoke to the player and he confirmed his decision. I’m very disappointed. It’s been six months that I’ve been trying to make him feel at the heart of our project… Obviously, I didn’t do enough to convince him.”
Kvaratskhelia concluded his message with a heartfelt farewell, saying, “I say goodbye, but you will always be in my heart, and I hope we will meet again. I know that your heart is very broken, but one day I will tell you everything. I want to wish you success, to give this city, these people the Scudetto.”
