Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta in Serie A on Tuesday night, extending their tally of league draws to 13 from 20 matches.

The result keeps Juventus in fifth place with 34 points, while Atalanta remains third with 43 points, four behind leaders Napoli. Pierre Kalulu scored in the 54th minute, finishing Weston McKennie’s pass with a slide rule finish past Marco Carnesecchi.

However, Atalanta built momentum and substitute Mateo Retegui, returning from injury, levelled with a diving header from Raoul Bellanova’s assist in the 78th minute. Despite the draw, both sides achieved positive records. Atalanta extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 15 games for the second time in their history.

Juventus manager Thiago Motta, watching from the stands due to a red card suspension, became the second Juventus manager to remain unbeaten in his first 20 Serie A matches, matching Antonio Conte’s record. The first half was largely uneventful, with Atalanta dominating possession but failing to create clear chances.

Juventus’ best opportunity came just before the break when Teun Koopmeiners stretched to meet a cross, but Carnesecchi cleared the danger. After the break, Juventus came out aggressively and nearly took the lead when Kalulu’s header from a corner struck the post.

The intensity remained high throughout the second half, with both sides creating chances. Following Kalulu’s goal, Atalanta midfielder Éderson forced Michele Di Gregorio into a diving save, while Ademola Lookman’s shot on the hour was cleared off the line by Koopmeiners.

Atalanta’s pressure finally paid off with Retegui’s equalizer, which propelled him to the top of the Serie A scorer’s list with 13 goals. Both keepers were called into action in the final minutes, with Carnesecchi saving a Manuel Locatelli header and Di Gregorio denying Nicolò Zaniolo in a one-on-one situation.

In stoppage time, Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz nearly sealed the points, but his angled drive skimmed the post, ensuring the match ended in a draw.
