Barcelona secured the 2025 Spanish Super Cup with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in a match that had it all. Hansi Flick’s side recovered from an early deficit, surged to a 5-1 lead, and then withstood a late Madrid surge after Wojciech Szczęsny’s red card.

The match began with Barcelona creating scoring opportunities, but it was Real Madrid who struck first through Kylian Mbappe’s fifth-minute goal. However, Barcelona equalized in the 22nd minute with a stunning strike by Lamine Yamal, who showcased his skills with a mesmerizing run and finish.

Barcelona took the lead in the 35th minute when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Gavi was fouled by Eduardo Camavinga. The Catalan side extended their lead just minutes later, as Raphinha headed home Jules Kounde’s pinpoint cross.

Before halftime, Barcelona scored again through Alejandro Balde, who slotted home after a quick counterattack. The first half ended with Barcelona firmly in control, leading 4-1.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Rodrygo smashing a volley against the woodwork before Raphinha grabbed his second goal, making it 5-1. However, Real Madrid were handed a lifeline when Wojciech Szczęsny was sent off for bringing down Mbappe outside the penalty area.

Madrid capitalized on the numerical advantage, scoring through Rodrygo’s free kick. Despite being down to 10 men, Barcelona managed to slow the game down and protect their lead. The match ended with Barcelona claiming the Spanish Super Cup title, their first trophy of the season.

Barcelona have now scored at least four goals in successive Clasicos for the first time in history, having also beaten Los Blancos 4-0 when the two sides locked horns in La Liga earlier this season.

Throughout the match, there were several contentious moments, including a potential red card for Vinicius Jr, who raked his studs down Jules Kounde’s Achilles but escaped with a warning. Ultimately, Barcelona’s victory marked another triumph in the storied El Clasico rivalry and for a record 15th time have won the Spanish Super Cup.
