Manchester City confirms that defender Kyle Walker has formally requested to leave the club with immediate effect to explore opportunities abroad. Manager Pep Guardiola stated, “Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad and end his career. We respect his decision and are in discussions to find the best solution for both parties.”

Walker, 34, has been a cornerstone of Manchester City’s defense since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017. His exceptional speed, defensive acumen, and leadership have been instrumental in the club’s domestic and international successes, including multiple Premier League titles and a historic treble in the 2022-2023 season.

Despite signing a two-year contract extension in September 2023, Walker’s playing time has diminished this season, with only nine Premier League starts. This reduced involvement has prompted him to consider concluding his career abroad. Reports suggest interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer, and Europe, with Saudi clubs like Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad particularly keen on acquiring his services.

Manchester City acknowledges Walker’s contributions and is committed to facilitating a smooth transition. The club is also evaluating potential replacements, with Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong among the candidates under consideration.
