West Ham United is pleased to announce the appointment of Graham Potter as the club’s new head coach, effective immediately. The 49-year-old takes over from Julen Lopetegui, who was dismissed after a disappointing start to the season, leaving the team in 14th place in the Premier League standings.
Potter has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and returns to the Premier League after a 21-month absence following his tenure at Chelsea. He expressed excitement about his new role, stating, “It was important to me that I waited until a job came along that I felt was right for me, and equally that I was the right fit for the club I am joining.” He emphasized the shared values of hard work and ambition with West Ham’s leadership.
The club’s chairman and board expressed confidence in Potter’s ability to lead West Ham forward, citing his proven track record at previous clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion and Ostersunds. Potter will be joined by assistant coach Bruno and first-team coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, while goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero remains in his position.
Potter’s first match in charge will be an FA Cup tie against Aston Villa on January 10, followed by a crucial London derby against Fulham on January 14. With West Ham eager to improve their league performance and build on their recent successes, Potter’s appointment marks a significant step towards revitalizing the team’s fortunes.
